The cellist Marco Pereira, winner of the Young Musicians Award in 2003 and a section leader in the Gulbenkian Orchestra since 2015, has steadily consolidated an international career; his Matosinhos String Quartet was part of the ECHO Rising Stars series, and performed at prestigious concert halls such as the Barbican Centre, in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Musikverein, in Vienna. Besides Tchaikovsky’ always-challenging Variations on a Rococo Theme, conducted by Jean-Marc Burfin, the programme also includes Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, inspired by the colours and atmospheres experienced by the composer during his stay in Italy from 1829 to 1831.
