Diabelli Variations

The debut performance at Gulbenkian by a musician whose rise has been one of the most meteoric in recent years. Described by some as “the most fascinating young pianist in the world” or even as “the pianist of the century”, the Russian Igor Levit confirmed the high hopes placed in him when he recorded Beethoven’s final piano sonatas in 2014. With his characteristically impetuous style, he tackled three sets of variations in his latest recording project: J. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations and The People United Will Never Be Defeated! by American pianist and composer Frederic Rzewski.
