El Sistema Residency

The spirited interpretations of the Bachianas Brasileiras by Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra have acquired an almost legendary aura. The cycle of compositions which the Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos wrote in the second quarter of the 20th century is an exemplary combination of local folklore with the heritage of written music, which had already been the motive behind his earlier series for choir and orchestra, Choros. Based on the popular choro, Rasga o Coração (Rend your Heart), for choir and orchestra, Villa-Lobos revives the ancient echo of the indigenous song.
