Grand Auditorium Calouste Gulbenkian FoundationThe Artist in the City of Lisbon in 2016, the Congolese choreographer and dancer Faustin Linyekula uses his body and work to tell a personal story and the story of the country he grew up in (formerly Zaire) and where he lives today (the turbulent transition to the Democratic Republic of Congo). Long considered as one of the most important African creators, Linyekula uses the mesmerising ndombolo music, the bastard daughter of local church brass bands and funk, as the material around which more more more… future is built, a bold reflection on the hardships and mistakes of previous Congolese generations.
