Parsifal: Prelude

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

Symphony No. 5, op. 107, Reformation
— Intermission of 20 min —

Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel

Oratorio on Scenes from the Bible
Total approximate duration: 120 min

Born into a family that greatly valued their education, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn were encouraged from an early age to develop their talents, studying music at home and reading works by Goethe and Shakespeare together. Before long, the two siblings revealed themselves to be true musical prodigies, both through their pianistic gifts and their compositional talent. In this programme conducted by Hannu Lintu, two major works by the two composers, inspired by religious themes, will be performed.
