The Ensemble Vostan was founded in 2021 by virtuoso Haïg Sarikouyoumdjian with the aim of preserving the traditional Armenian repertoire. For Vostan, this means trying to free itself from the influences of other neighbouring regions that have been felt in the country’s traditional music, in favour of an authenticity based on instruments such as the kamancha or the duduk. By interpreting sacred or profane themes, the group is also open to improvisation, respecting tradition but bringing it into the present.
