Impromptus

In his first recital in Portugal at the Gulbenkian Foundation, the pianist Emanuel Ax will perform a new piece created especially for him by the North-American composer Samuel Adams, who follows in his father’s steps, the well-known John Adams. The orchestral or atmospheric compositional nature of Samuel Adams, inspired by traditional forms and the digital culture, has been dubbed “mesmerizing” by The New York Times, which also classified it as “music by a composer with a personal voice and keen imagination”.
