It could well be a demanding task to follow Dave Douglas’ every step. Continually changing the focus and direction of his music, the North-American trumpeter returns to Jazz em Agosto with a quartet in which electronics contaminate the musical narrative, albeit dodging with remarkable skill all the clichés that are often expected from the combination of the two worlds. Guided by a relaxed, meditative tone, High Risk invents its own course and integrates electronics, not as an addition to conventional instruments, but rather as an organic element that refers back to seminal works by Miles Davis and John Hassell.
