Formed in Paris from within the Collectif Coax, the Coax Orchestra claims an affiliation to Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time and John Zorn’s Naked City ensembles, bringing both a legacy from the early days of free jazz, and a post-modern approach that spans the most diverse styles from progressive rock to funk and film music. Under the direction of composer and drummer Yann Joussein, the collective’s music seems to be continually jolted by various clashing planes in a process of permanent transformation and struggle. Each theme comes across rife with traps, hidden layers and unpredictable directions.
