Praised for his “magnetic playing” (Cristian Macelaru), Carlos Ferreira is hailed as one of the most proclaimed clarinetists of our time.
Prize winner at the ARD International Competition in Munich, the Geneva International Competition and of the WEMAG Soloist Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Carlos Ferreira captivates audiences with his artistry, refined sound and stage presence.
In 2024, Carlos Ferreira was named Principal Clarinet of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He takes on his new position in August 2025. In 2020, Carlos Ferreira joined the Orchestre National de France as Principal Clarinet. Previously he held the same position with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Orchestre National de Lille.
In addition to his engagements with the Orchestre National de France, Carlos enjoys an extensive international career as soloist and chamber musician, performing at the at the world’s major festivals and venues.
As soloist, Carlos appears with the Orchestre National de France, the the Münchener Rundfunkorchester, the Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, the Münchener Kammerorchester, Prague Philharmonia, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and the Collegium Musicum Basel, and under the direction of acclaimed conductors such as Cristian Măcelaru, Lorenzo Viotti, Nuno Coelho, Valentin Uryupin, Gabriel Bebeșelea and Pierre Bleuse, always delivering deeply moving performances.
As a chamber musician, he has worked with world-renowned musicians such as Hilary Hahn, Alice Sara Ott, Emmanuel Pahud, Eric le Sage, Paul Meyer, Lise Berthaud, Pierre Fouchenneret, Sarah Nemtanu, Quatuor Hermès, Timothy Ridout, Frank Duprée, Nika Goric, Karen Gomyo, Julia Hagen and Sao Soulez-Larivière.
Member of the Academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2016, Carlos Ferreira pursued his orchestral career at first with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo as Principal E-flat Clarinet.
Born in Paredes, Portugal, he received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation while studying at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, in the class of professors Michel Arrignon and Enrique Pérez Piquer. He later joined the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Arno Piters, and the HEMU of Lausanne in the class of Florent Héau. In Portugal, he was a student of José Ricardo Freitas at the José Atalaya Music Academy and ARTAVE, having completed his degree with Nuno Pinto at the Porto Superior School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE).
His first joint album with the pianist and composer Pedro Emanuel Pereira titled “XX-XXI” was released in November 2022.

(António Victorino d’Almeida, Vera Gornostaeva, Naum Grubert)Born in Guimarães, Pedro Emanuel Pereira is one of the most prominent Portuguese pianists and composers of his generation.
In composition, the highlights include the commission of a concerto for clarinet and orchestra that will be premiered at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in the USA, conducted by Cristian Maçelaru and Carlos Ferreira on clarinet; the writing of a Requiem in memory of Francisco Sá Carneiro; and the première of the work "Passarola", for piano, electronics and sacred geometry, which was attended by the King of Spain, the President of the Portuguese Republic and the President of the Italian Republic.
As a soloist, his recitals in Barcelona, New York and Amsterdam stand out, as do his concerts with the Yerevan Opera Orchestra, the Casa da Música do Porto Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.Together with clarinetist Carlos Ferreira, a 2024 Rising Star artist, Pedro Emanuel Pereira will be touring the main European venues, namely the Barbican Centre in London; Paris Philharmonie; Elbphilharmonie and Laiszhalle in Hamburg; Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona; Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Musikverein in Vienna; among others.
As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese revolution of 25 April 1974, Pedro Emanuel Pereira has created a project that will be taken to ten prisons in Portugal. “50'25 - Through the Prisons of Portugal” will consist of the creation and performance of 10 original works, inspired by poetic texts that will be written by the inmates of each prison.
Pedro Emanuel Pereira's discography includes three albums.
"Russian Journey" - with works for solo piano by Prokofiev and Rachmaninov; " Sounds of My Homeland" - dedicated exclusively to original works by himself for solo piano; and "XX-XXI", recorded together with clarinetist Carlos Ferreira.In 2024, the artist will release his next album for solo piano, which will feature music by Bach, Hindemith, Almeida, and works of his own.
His academic career includes a degree from the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory, in the class of pianist Vera Gornostaeva, and postgraduate studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory in the class of pianist Naum Grubert, where he finished with the highest marks and Cum Laude
honours. In Portugal, he completed his studies in the class of pianist Marian Pivka at the Guimarães Conservatory.
He studied orchestration and instrumentation with Mikhail Bogdanov and Artun Hoinic, and received scholarships from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Jacques Vonk Foundation during his studies.Pedro Emanuel Pereira has taken part in several international piano and composition competitions. A laureate in more than 20 international competitions, he won first prize at the Santa Cecília International Competition in Porto, the Richard Vines International Competition in Lleida and the San Sebastian International Competition, among others.
In addition to his work as a concert pianist and composer, Pedro Emanuel Pereira carries out academic research at the University of Aveiro, in the doctoral programme in Artistic Creation, and is also dedicated to music production, being one of the founding members of the Percos Music production company.

As a member of the ECHO – European Concert Hall Organisation network, comprising a group of prestigious concert halls across Europe, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is once again opening its doors to receive the Rising Stars cycle.
Throughout a musically intense day, the focus will be on the rising stars of contemporary interpretation and music creation, and the public will be able to see live the exceptionality of some of the youngsters selected to be part of the Rising Stars. Once again, the programme privileges the diversity of proposals, with performances by musicians of exceptional talent. In the context of Open Doors, a varied programme and a festive musical atmosphere is provided in an informal setting.
