András Schiff

András Schiff returned in 2008, to celebrate 30 years of close links to the Wigmore Hall in London, playing the same work with which he made his debut in 1978: the Goldberg Variations by J. S. Bach. There can be no other composer to whom the Hungarian conductor and pianist has dedicated himself as intensely as Bach, and he admits that never a day of his life goes by without devoting a few minutes to playing the German genius. At the time of his last performance at Gulbenkian in January 2017, with his ensemble Cappella Andrea Barca, he told Público that “Bach is such a great composer – the best! – his music is inexhaustible.”
