Cairo Jazz Station

Four young musicians from Egypt, Turkey, Portugal and Italy – Abdallah Abozekry (sax), Ismail Altunbas (percussion), João Barradas (accordion) and Loris Lari (double bass) – got together in Cairo with the purpose of building a new and shared musical identity. Inspired by the oral and improvised musical styles of Europe and the Middle East, they mix timbres and horizons, bringing together sonorous universes from a geographic region undergoing full mutation. Their music feeds from the voyages each has made, their artistic residences and tours as well as unprecedented meetings.

The Cairo Jazz Station project began development last year under the auspices of the creative workshops of the Medinea (MEditerranean INcubator of Emerging Artists) network coordinated by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.

In collaboration with Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Supported by Medinea.
