Founder and musical director of the Insula Orchestra and the Coro Accentus, French conductor Laurence Equilbey has excelled in the direction of the classic and pre-romantic repertoire with period instruments, as well as in choral pieces. In April 2017, Equilbey inaugurated the new French concert hall, La Seine Musicale, with the Orquestra Insula, and she has remained since then as artist in residence. Directing the Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra, she conducts a programme that includes A German Requiem by Brahms, which the baritone Thomas Hampson recorded to widespread acclaim with the Vienna Philharmonic.
