For Leonardo García Alarcón, Associate Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra from season 2018/19, the discovery of J. S. Bach in childhood had the aura of an epiphany: “I told my father – I no longer like the music you like, now what I like is by a certain Johann Sebastian Bach,” he told Público. From then on, Alarcón began to feel the music of Bach as something extremely close, as if it were talking to him and advising him. The decisive momentum of a musically intense and fraternal “voice”, as in the case of the eternal last movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
