Ava Mendoza Electric guitar
Gabby Fluke-Mogul Violin

In her third performance at Jazz em Agosto, Ava Mendoza joins her untamed guitar with Gabby Fluke-Mogul’s disruptive violin. Mendoza has long since become an essential name in today’s exploratory music, treating the guitar as an abrasive instrument, as comfortable in fearless rock settings as in free improvisation without a net, often publishing for John Zorn’s Tzadik. Fluke-Mogul shares with the guitarist the closeness of musicians such as Fred Frith and Zeena Parkins, and has been described as “the most sweeping sound in improvised music in several years”. After a few partnerships with other musicians in a quartet, the two take on a visceral duo, in a constant walk on the edge of the abyss.

Approximate duration: 50 min.
