Grand Auditorium Calouste Gulbenkian FoundationAfter giving a voice to the Berber songs of the Aurès, which sealed her reputation, the Algerian Houria Aïchi has devoted recent years to a precise and exhaustive collection of songs from the religious repertoire of her country. Through encountering the generosity of the people as she was building up this extraordinary inventory, Aïchi mapped the entire Algerian geographical and cultural landscape as completely as possible. Out of this enormous undertaking, she subsequently devised a performance that brings to life the repertoire she discovered, which the singer brings into the present for the most varied audiences, inside and outside Algeria.
