In the music of Anouar Brahem, from Tunisia, there is a constant dialogue between music, traditions, cultures and geographies. Mediterranean traditions naturally intersect with the audacity of jazz, the sonorities transmitted from father to son are approached with vibrant innovation, and each sequence of notes from his oud can sound as touching in their simplicity as they are exuberant in their complexity. To celebrate his 60th birthday, he presents a new album in the company of three jazz legends: bass player Dave Holland, drummer Jack DeJohnette and pianist Django Bates.
