Goldberg Variations

Angela Hewitt is regarded as one of the world’s greatest interpreters of the music of J. S. Bach. In 1999, she embarked on the ambitious task of recording on disk the splendid Goldberg Variations. It was eleven at night and, after a massage and a meal, all she had to do was repeat the opening piece in the studio. Her interpretation was so extraordinary that the producer advised her to continue and re-record the entire set. The final result of this session was described by The Guardian as “Bach on the piano of the highest quality imaginable”. Hewitt returns solo to the stage of the Grand Auditorium, where in 2008 she played Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier.
