Total approximate duration: 75 min / Concert without intermission
Sebastião Salgado's stunning photos of the Amazon meet the music of Heitor Villa-Lobos in an immersive concert that takes us to the heart of the forest.

For six years, Sebastião Salgado travelled across the Brazilian Amazon, capturing its incomparable beauty in photographs: the rainforest, the rivers, the mountains, and the peoples who live there. This irreplaceable treasure of humanity – where the immense power of nature can be felt as nowhere else on Earth – now comes to life in a unique performance that brings together music and image. More than 200 striking photographs by Salgado, selected by the artist himself, enter into dialogue with the suite Floresta do Amazonas for orchestra and soprano by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Under the direction of conductor Simone Menezes, the programme also includes Águas da Amazónia by Philip Glass and Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4 by Villa-Lobos. Presented in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, this immersive performance transforms the stage into a visual and sonic journey through nature, calling for the preservation of our planet.

This concert is part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s 70th anniversary celebrations.
