In close liaison with the Almada Negreiros exhibition, scheduled for the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum/Modern Collection, the Gulbenkian Orchestra will perform the suite La tragedia de Dona Ajada, by the Spanish composer Salvador Bacarisse, which was premiered in 1929 to accompany the poetic work of Manuel Abril. The music of Bacarisse was also linked to the illustrations that Almada Negreiros conceived to be projected in a magic lantern during the original performance, and which will also be reproduced. This collaboration between artists is reminiscent of that which Satie had, a few years earlier, when he joined the writer and filmmaker Jean Cocteau in creating the ballet Parade. This is a concert that conveys the cross-arts atmosphere that existed in the early 20th century.
