Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir
A premiada soprano e artista visual islandesa Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir foi nomeada Cantora do Ano, na categoria de Música Clássica e Contemporânea, nos Prémios de Música da Islândia de 2021. A sua versatilidade e a sua abordagem inovadora fizeram dela uma artista muito requisitada por compositores e outros intérpretes.
Álfheiður transita com facilidade entre géneros, abraçando os estilos clássico, contemporâneo e experimental. A sua colaboração, Poems, composta e concebida com o compositor Viktor Orri Árnason, foi lançada pela Deutsche Grammophon em novembro de 2023, assim como a sua canção Notturno, uma reinterpretação do trabalho de Víkingur Ólafsson sobre o Intermezzo de Brahms, presente no seu último álbum, From afar. A performance Apparition, apresentada na sala de concertos Harpa, em Reiquiavique, em 2022, em parceria com o pianista Kunal Lahiry, foi descrita pela crítica como “um evento artístico único e inesquecível” e foi nomeada como evento do ano nos Prémios de Música da Islândia de 2023.
Álfheiður estreou-se na Ópera Estadual de Berlim no papel principal de Branca de Neve, de Wolfgang Mitterer, em 2019, seguindo-se a sua estreia como Papagena, em A flauta mágica de Mozart. Depois de receber inúmeros elogios pela sua interpretação do Anjo, em São Francisco de Assis de Messiaen, no Teatro de Basileia, em 2020 tornou-se membro do elenco do teatro e, desde então, cantou Rigoletto (Gilda) de Verdi, uma versão encenada da Paixão segundo São Mateus, de J. S. Bach, bem como Einstein on the Beach, de Philip Glass, entre outras obras.
Dedicada intérprete da canção de câmara, a jovem soprano participou no SongStudio de Renée Fleming, no Carnegie Hall, em 2019, e foi selecionada para representar a Islândia na competição BBC Cardiff Singer of the World de 2021.

Kunal Lahiry

Indian-American pianist Kunal Lahiry is a recent BBC New Generation Artist and recipient of the 2021 Carl Bechstein Foundation scholarship. Recent performance highlights include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Kennedy Center, Pierre Boulez Saal, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Room, Musée d’Orsay, Ludwigsburg Festival, Life Victoria de Los Angeles Festival, and at the Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute. He has been broadcasted on BBC Radio 3, Icelandic National Public Radio RÁS1, Austrian Radio Ö1, and RBB Kultur, and was featured on ARTE’s ‘Hope@Home’ and ‘Europe@Home’ series hosted by violinist Daniel Hope. This season includes appearances at Stoller Hall, Bristol St. George’s, Aldeburgh Festival, Opera Holland Park, Cheltenham Music Festival, Harpa Concert Hall, Schubertíada Comillas, Hugo Wolf Academy, Heidelberg Neulied Festival, Philharmonie de Paris.
Kunal has commissioned and premiered works by Nico Muhly, Errollyn Wallen, Nahre Sol, Héloïse Werner, Pablo Campos, Molly Joyce, Viktor Orri Árnason, Guðmundur Emilsson, Zachary Radler, Zubaida Azezi, and Edo Frenkel. He received grants from the Musikfonds and the Center for Musical Excellence to finance and co-produce an interdisciplinary video project called ‘Homescapes’ with Icelandic soprano and visual artist Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir, and created a music video with Boomtown Media Productions exploring queerness in classical music through the support of the Liedzentrum Heidelberg. He frequently collaborates with pop singer Lie Ning in Berlin and they performed together at the 2020 Reeperbahn in Hamburg.
Kunal has been invited to participate in several young artist programmes for pianists specializing in art song. In 2018, he was selected for the inaugural Royaumont-Orsay Academy, culminating in a live album recording released by B Records. He also joined Carnegie Hall’s first Song Studio, mentored by Renée Fleming, was invited by Thomas Hampson to participate in the Heidelberg Lied Academy, and received the Sam Hutchings prize at Malcolm Martineau’s Oxenfoord International Summer School.
Originally from Gainesville, Georgia, Kunal was a Schulich Scholar at McGill University and graduated with distinction in song interpretation from the Hochschule for Müsik “Hanns Eisler”. He is an Equilibrium Young Artist, Samling Artist, Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Artist, and Britten Pears Young Artist. Kunal is currently based in Berlin.

As a member of the ECHO – European Concert Hall Organisation network, comprising a group of prestigious concert halls across Europe, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is once again opening its doors to receive the Rising Stars cycle.
Throughout a musically intense day, the focus will be on the rising stars of contemporary interpretation and music creation, and the public will be able to see live the exceptionality of some of the youngsters selected to be part of the Rising Stars. Once again, the programme privileges the diversity of proposals, with performances by musicians of exceptional talent. In the context of Open Doors, a varied programme and a festive musical atmosphere is provided in an informal setting.
