For the seventh consecutive season, Russian pianist Grigory Sokolov, one of the most celebrated musicians of our time, performs solo in the Grand Auditorium. A prime example of a deep relationship forged with the Gulbenkian audience, Sokolov lives for the stage and for the live sharing of his musical excellence. He’s consistently turned down the opportunity to make studio recordings and only has occasionally allowed his concerts to be recorded. That said, in 2015 he released The Salzburg Recital, focusing on Mozart and Chopin, a recording that Geoff Brown of The Times considered to be «a magical encounter with a near-mythical creature.»
