From the call to tender to the preliminary draft (1959-1962)

Sketch of the Museum Courtyards

During the development of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s garden design, prior to 1969, there were two definitive moments in the design of the museum courtyards, one in 1963 and the other in 1966.

Later, in 1976 the museum’s courtyards and the congress courtyard were restored.

This sketch belongs to the set of preliminary studies for the museum courtyards developed in 1963 [i] by the landscape architects Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles and António Facco Viana Barreto.

The high quality of the drawing enables us to understand the spatiality intended for the museum’s courtyards.
