Total approximate duration: 60 min / Concert without intermission

In this Sunday Concert, we are carried away by music’s immense ability to become intertwined with great narratives. In the cases of Humperdinck and Tchaikovsky, their scores were composed to help shape the imaginary worlds of the children’s tales Hänsel and Gretel and Sleeping Beauty, while Felix Mendelssohn wrote for one of Shakespeare’s most enchanting comedies, centred on the love triangle of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Mozart, for his part, elevated the fantasy of The Magic Flute. Cécile Chaminade poured the full expression of an epic romance into her Concertino.
