Reading room
For Julianknxx, resting is a radical act of resistance.
In the exhibition ‘Chorus in Rememory of Flight’, there is a place of rest and relaxation, where you can share, watch, listen or consult a series of books, documents, sound recordings, music and objects selected by the artist and many of his collaborators.
In this space there is a range of books by African and diaspora authors who map interests, memories and histories, as well as focusing on an extensive production of contemporary critical discourse.
The books, that can be consulted, were chosen by Julianknxx, Vítor Sanches, Dentu Zona – Cova da Moura, and the curatorial team of the associated programme, Jesualdo Lopes, Paulo Pascoal, Rafael de Oliveira and Selma Uamusse.

Imbued with memories and stemming from African cultural traditions, a selection of African cloth from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique, chosen by the co-curators of the associated programme, is on display.
In this space, we can also listen to a series of recordings and interviews gathered by the artist in Lisbon, in 2023, edited and translated by Bantumen, and produced by Luzingo.
‘Sem hierarquia’ [No hierarchy], a playlist of Portuguese hip-hop, proposed by Corsino Furtado, is available on Spotify. In this playlist there are 10 albums that, according to the artist, established hip-hop culture in Portugal.
‘Chorus in Rememory of Flight’
This exhibition is a cinematic portrayal of the Black experience. Spanning 6,500 kilometers, over the course of one year, Julianknxx travelled to nine European cities with colonial histories, in each of them collaborating with artists, musicians and choirs from the Black communities. The result is a compelling encounter with Europe’s past and present, and the possibility that lies in its future.
