Rui Chafes and Alberto Giacometti. Gris, Vide, Cris
From May to September 2023, CAM – Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian will host the exhibition ‘Gris, Vide, Cris’, which brings together works by artists Rui Chafes and Alberto Giacometti. A series of sculptures by the two artists will be on display, some of which were created specifically for the exhibition, whose first edition was held in 2018 at the French Delegation of the Gulbenkian Foundation.
To accompany this second edition, CAM is launching a new catalogue in partnership with publishing company La Fábrica, which has been designed by Pedro Falcão. The essays by Christian Alandete, curator and former art director of the Institut Giacometti, Doris von Drathen, historian and art critic, and Rui Chafes, which were included in the catalogue for the first edition of the exhibition, are republished.
The catalogue also contains a text by curator Helena de Freitas, who provides an update on the 2018 concept and puts this new edition of the exhibition in context, as well as an original essay by Virginia Marano, researcher and member of the Board of Directors at Fondazione Centro Giacometti in Stampa, Switzerland.
In addition, the catalogue features a glossary of concepts relating to the work of Rui Chafes, begun in 2018 and extended and updated here, biographies of the two artists, and images of all the works on display, as well as photographs of the installation, by Alcino Gonçalves.
