Gabriel Abrantes (1984, Chapel Hill, USA) is exhibiting his installation Bardo Loops at Gasworks in London from April to June 2026. Bardo Loops was originally commissioned by CAM for the reopening of the renovated building in September 2024, as part of the exhibition Tide Line. CAM Collection. The CAM archives currently hold four of the artist’s works. This installation has been showcased internationally, including an exhibition at the Collection Lambert in Avignon, strengthening Abrantes’ presence in the international contemporary art scene.

Gabriel Abrantes’ work addresses historical, social, and political themes, exploring post-colonial, gender, and identity issues. In Bardo Loops, four films follow animated ghosts conversing in a dystopian future shaped by environmental catastrophe.

The presentation at Gasworks will be complemented by screenings of his work at the Barbican Cinema, increasing the public visibility of his practice. This support is part of the UK Branch’s strategy to promote international exchange and enhance the visibility of artists from Portugal and Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) within British cultural institutions.
