Studio Centro de Arte Moderna GulbenkianIn this conversation, we reflect on how changes in Lisbon’s social and spatial fabric affect historically marginalised communities, exploring strategies of cultural preservation, activism and artistic creation as forms of resistance.
Cláudia Semedo, Marfox and Mikas share their experiences and perspectives on the struggle for places that welcome diversity, the occupation and maintenance of spaces dedicated to their communities, and the role of art in reclaiming the present.
Between archive and innovation, heritage and reinvention, we invite the public to think critically about what it means to inhabit a city in constant dispute and how we can collectively build other narratives of belonging and perseverance.
The city changes, but what memories remain? How can culture challenge the homogenisation imposed by tourism and the property market? How do artistic and community practices help to affirm presences and build possible futures?
The conversation will be in Portuguese with Portuguese Sign Language interpretation.

Cláudia Semedo
Cláudia Semedo (Oeiras, 1983) is an actress, television host and broadcaster. President of Companhia de Actores and artistic director of Teatro Municipal Amélia Rey Colaço since January 2017, she completed the Acting Course at Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais, in 2001 and graduated in Journalism from Escola Superior de Comunicação Social, in 2012. She has appeared in short and feature films such as Jeanne Waltz’s ‘As Terças da Bailarina Gorda’, Carlos Pinto Coelho’s ‘O Crime do Padre Amaro’ and plays such as ‘A Viagem de Pedro, o Afortunado’, at the Dona Maria II National Theatre, ‘A Noite dos Assassinos’, at the Trafaria Prison and ‘Lisboa Invisível’, at the Meridional Theatre.

DJ Marfox
DJ Marfox was one of the founders of Príncipe Discos and continues to be one of its most prominent ambassadors. His vision of baroque and rhythmically expansive techno, imbued with Garage, Bass and Beat, has captivated audiences and critics with titles on record labels such as Boomkat Records, Enchufada, Lit City Trax and Warp Records. His trajectory includes several remixes (tUnE-yArDs, Capicua, Panda Bear, Elza Soares, Fever Ray, among others) and the commission of music for artist Natascha Sadr Haghighian’s installation in the German Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. In 2022 he was invited to compose for the RTP Festival da Canção, and his song ‘DÉGRÁ.DÊ’, performed by Pongo and Tristany, was a finalist.

Mikas
Mikas was born and raised in Mozambique. In the 1980s, he made the decision to leave his homeland and move to Europe. In Portugal, Mikas established himself as an entrepreneur and innovator in the fields of arts, music and gastronomy, investing in new markets and turning opportunities into successes. His projects include some of Lisbon’s nightlife landmarks such as Bicaense and Clube Ferroviário. Mikas is recognised as an inspiration to others who dream of transforming their lives through entrepreneurship.
