Artist books and independent editions
Inspired by the Founder's interest and love for art books, the Art Library is developing a collection of artist books.
In this collection, that includes the “independent and self-publishing” editions – sometimes the border with the artist book is very tenuous – there are both single and multiple items of different formats and sizes: books printed in offset, digital or mobile characters , but also books that are entirely produced manually or in which the artist had a direct intervention in their printing, with runs that can be hundreds of copies or just no more than a dozen, or even special and accompanied by drawings and / or paintings originals, prints and / or engravings.

The Art Library at home
The Art Library and Archives wants to continue sharing its collections and has prepared a “best of” that reveals books and magazines – some belonging to the library of Calouste Gulbenkian – photographs and artist books, documents that are part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s history and work moments that are away of the public eye.Find out more
