Casa da Arquitectura, in Matosinhos, is presenting the exhibition What is needed. 50 Years of Portuguese Architecture in Democracy. Opened on 26 October 2024, the exhibition will be on view until 7 September 2025 and includes documents from the Gulbenkian Art Library’s collection.

Among the materials on display, the Art Library highlights a set of drawings from the Manuel Tainha Collection and the Álvaro Siza Archive, relating to the projects for the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences and the Portugal Pavilion in Lisbon, respectively.

For the Portugal Pavilion project, six drawings have been selected, documenting both the early design studies and the final execution project.

Regarding the project for the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, one section and two floor plans are on display.

Curated by Jorge Figueira and Ana Neiva, the exhibition spans 700 m² and is structured around five thematic modules: Revolution (1974–1983), Europe (1984–1993), Fin de siècle (1994–2003), Troika (2004–2013), and Wi-Fi (2014–2023).

Running alongside the exhibition is a complementary cultural programme, curated by Jorge Figueira and Nuno Sampaio.
