Exhibition “Art, Architecture and Nature – borders, relationships and variations”
The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the António Arroio Art School established a collaboration in November 2024, involving the final-year students of the Printmaking | Serigraphy specialization, to create an artist’s publication inspired by the multiple poetic and aesthetic relationships that can be established between the buildings, their various collections and the Gulbenkian garden.
Throughout the months of development, the students of the 12th year (class L) of the Art Production course had the opportunity to discover the collections of the Art Library, CAM and the Museum, through guided tours that revealed spaces and pieces from their collections that are usually off-behind the public, as well as exploratory visits to the Foundation’s garden and buildings.
On the Foundation’s behalf, the process was followed up by Susana Gomes da Silva from CAM, Inês Brandão and Ricardo Mendes from the Gulbenkian Museum, Paula Corte-Real from the Gulbenkian Garden and Ana Barata from the Art Library.
At the school, Project and Technology teachers Inês Almeida, Margarida Palma and Nuno Neves were in charge of the guidance; Ana Catarina Romano, Ana Lúcia Alexandre, Ary Menor Costa, Beatriz Lourenço, Belinda Pires, Catarina Almeida, Catarina Azevedo, Clara Russo, Joana Charrinho, Madalena Oliveira, Madalena Sousa, Madalena Sereno, Maria João Silva, Maria Manquinho, Maria Serpa Nunes, Nazaré Sousa, October Spears, Rodrigo Xavier, Sara Cascalheira and Sofia Silva participated with their work.
The works exhibited in CAM’s educational space are the conclusion of the creative process, revealing 20 poetic and graphic approaches to the relationships, interstices and dialogues that develop in the Gulbenkian Foundation’s universe, from the unique perspective of each student. Each publication invites you to explore these borderlands, between light and shadow, between architecture, works of art, books and nature.
One copy of each of the 20 artists’ books will become part of the Art Library’s collection of Artist’s Books and Independent Editions.
