Conference about Portuguese Art and Architectural history in the XIX and XX centuries
The conference is organised by Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Faculdades de Letras e de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa e pela Universidade Complutense de Madrid. This conference is part of the research project on the history and historiography of Iberian art and architecture entitled Iberian Art and Architecture: Art and Architectural History in the Iberian Peninsula, conceived, coordinated and directed by Helena Pérez Gallardo (Complutense University Madrid), Sabina de Cavi (New Lisbon University) and Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann (Princeton University), and funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (I+D PID2021-125494NB-I00), active in the years 2023-2027.
Following on from another conference held at the Complutense University in October on the same subject in Spain, this conference, by debating the question of the origins of the history of art and architecture in Portugal and about Portugal, seeks to focus on and reconstruct the different narratives that emerged throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, and their protagonists.
This conference is being held in collaboration with the Gulbenkian Art Library, which, due to its documentary collections, is recognised by researchers as the reference library in Portugal for their research.
Free entry, subject to the capacity of Auditório 3.
