The project will equip the library’s main storage facility with a new storage system, significantly increasing its capacity and providing the space required to accommodate the natural growth of the collections over the next 35 to 40 years.

This investment will enhance the management, security and preservation of the collections, while also improving the quality, efficiency and responsiveness of the services provided to readers.

Despite the scale and complexity of the works, the Reading Room will remain open throughout the project, maintaining its usual opening hours and ensuring the continuity of on-site consultation services.

During the works, from 1 July 2026 to 30 March 2027, materials within certain call number ranges will be temporarily unavailable for consultation as they are progressively relocated and reorganised within the new storage system.

To help readers plan their visits, a map will be made available, which will be constantly updated to show the expected periods when the various sections will be unavailable.
