Júlio Moreira Collection, 1996-2017
Júlio MoreiraArchitecture and design collections and archives
This collection brings together the documentation produced between the 1960s and 2017 by landscape architect Júlio Moreira (Lisbon, 1930) as part of his professional activity. It also includes part of the personal archive relating to his literary production (1973-2012), and a small, specialised library.
With his work divided into various areas of landscaping and land use planning, the collection contains projects by Júlio Moreira and/or in collaboration with him in industrial spaces — such as the area around the “A Tabaqueira” neighbourhood (1966), the conversion of the Boba dump (Amadora, 2002-2004) and the Carnide (1985) and Lumiar (1999) cemetery projects.
This collection consists of the professional archive of landscape architect Júlio Moreira (Lisbon, 1930), with 14,705 documents produced between 1966 and 2017: drawings, copies of drawings, manuscripts, dactyloscripts, prints, photographic proofs, and negatives. It also includes several monographs and periodicals that make up a small, specialised library to support project preparation.
Júlio Moreira’s professional activity has been marked by the production of landscape architecture and land-use planning projects. His work has been linked to projects in various areas, including interventions in industrial spaces – such as the areas surrounding the workers’ neighbourhood “A Tabaqueira” (1966) — collaborations on plans for spaces of heritage interest, such as the reconversion plan for the Mosteiro de Alcobaça (1995), and projects around reserved spaces, such as the cemeteries of Carnide (1985) and Lumiar (1999).
The Júlio Moreira collection was donated by the architect to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in July 2011.
