Chronologies
The timelines published address themes, historical processes, and personalities of relevance to the knowledge of the historical and cultural legacies of the Foundation and its Founder and to the history and historiography of the Portuguese visual arts, architecture, design, and photography from the 19th to the 21st centuries.
Our main purpose in publishing these timelines is to publicize those documents from our collections selected to illustrate and document those topics, associating them with a particular chronological context, suggesting threads of research and producing a web of content relationships between the various information resources on each subject that exist at the Foundation and beyond.
These timelines result from the processing and curation of the collections and/or from research projects undertaken by the Art Library and Archives’ team, its partners - other departments of the Foundation, schools and universities, research centres, museums, archives, and libraries - or individual readers and researchers. They are open-ended works that are constantly being updated.
