Diasporan Perspectives: New Open Access Book Published on the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War

"The 44-Day War: Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Struggle for Nagorno-Karabakh", a significant academic work edited by Vicken Cheterian, featuring international specialists who analyse the origins and repercussions of the conflict, is now available online in full.
12 may 2026

The complete book can be read free of charge through the Diasporan Perspectives website. The paper version can be purchased from the publisher (I.B. Tauris/Bloomsbury).

The open access allows this research on conflict, diplomacy and displacement to be accessible not only to specialists, but also to journalists, civil society actors, students, and policymakers who deal directly with these issues.

The book brings together contributors from different fields and countries to examine the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War of 2020, a 44-day conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan which received little international attention at the time. However, for the first time in more than a decade, two independent states used their regular armed forces in open combat, anticipating the war later seen in Ukraine.
