European Greenfinch

Carduelis chloris

In spite of the loud and trilled song, the European Greenfinch is also recognizable by its greenish plumage, conical and bulky beak and yellow spots on the wings and the tail.

It is an essentially granivorous bird whose scientific name has the following meaning: Carduelis is the designation of the genus to which the Siskin belongs; chloris comes from klöris, which in ancient Greek meant green.

You can detect them through singing, sometimes interspersed with a very peculiar monosyllabic note: its bridal call.
