Song Thrush

Turdus philomelos

The Song Thrush is a common species in the Iberian Peninsula from November to February. During this period migratory birds from the northern parts of Europe (including Russia) are heading south in search of conditions to ensure their survival.

The scientific name of the Song Thrush has the following meaning: Turdus is the Latin term for Thrush and philomelos has its origin in the Greek words philos and melos, meaning respectively “lover” and “melody”, alluding to the vocal repertoire of the species and, in particular, the melodic richness of its singing.
