Fernando de Azevedo, Vespeira e etc… [Fernando de Azevedo, Vespeira and etc…]
Animals were widely represented in the Surrealist movement, mostly with a metaphorical function. One could think this might be the case with this image. However, Fernando Lemos describes more prosaic origins: the picture was made in the patio of the house of Marcelino Vespeira’s parents in Samouco, while everyone was eagerly waiting for a late lunch. The delay led Fernando Azevedo and Vespeira to grab the two animals and simulate in advance the expected meal.
