Text

This is one of Sarah Affonso's most emblematic works. We find a synthesis of several aspects that characterise her work: the quality of the lines, the colour scheme, the design implicit in the narrative composition – as if it were a daydream – traditional elements of popular culture, such as embroidery, toys and legends. It is common to see this lyrical association with reality, in which the theme merges with the experiences of those portrayed. In this work, we find a metaphor for the legend of the “god-boy” and, at the same time, we identify a self-portrait extended to her family. The figures play several roles, communicating both a universal myth and a portrait of Sarah Affonso, who is self-represented in the absorbed and blessed time and space of an artist, woman and young mother.
