The Exhibition of a Dream
in English
The libretto accompanying ‘The Exhibition of a Dream’ brings together the full texts of sixteen dreams and the mandalas that visually interpret them, published on the occasion of the exhibition conceived by Mathieu Copeland.
This libretto is published in conjunction with ‘The Exhibition of a Dream’, which draws its inspiration quite literally from the dreams of filmmakers, playwrights, poets and writers. Their dreams were composed by the German musician FM Einheit and subsequently recorded with the collaboration of numerous musicians and the Gulbenkian Choir.
The guiding thread of this project is the dream itself: as a manifestation of desires and fears (in the Freudian sense), as a vehicle for the voices of the unconscious (and sometimes of voices from another world), but also as a creative tool, with dreams viewed as a constituent element of mythologies.
The publication brings together the full texts of sixteen dreams by Gabriel Abrantes, Robert Barry, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, FM Einheit, Alexandre Estrela, Tim Etchells, Susie Green, Karl Holmqvist, David Link, Pierre Paulin, Emilie Pitoiset, Lee Ranaldo, Lætitia Sadier, Susan Stenger and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, as well as reproductions of mandalas by José de Almada Negreiros, Philippe Decrauzat, Myriam Gourfink, Peter Halley, Olivier Mosset and Eduardo Terrazas.
