The exhibition Sculpture on Screen. The Very Impress of the Object explores the fascination that classical sculpture has held for some contemporary artists. Around this question, seven international artists were invited to exhibit their works: Anja Kirschner and David Panos, Fiona Tan, Mark Lewis, Rosa Barba, Lonnie van Brummelen and Siebren de Haan. These films and their cameras’ close portrayal of old, famous or forgotten objects allow us a new look at the sculptures from the past.

The publication presented here consists of a text by Penelope Curtis, curator of the exhibition, which guides us through the works featured in the exhibition and these relationships between contemporary art, film works and classical sculpture. This edition is also enriched by double-page photographs that show how the works are embedded into the exhibition space, revealing the relationship between the gallery’s open space, the gardens that surround it, the movement in the films and the stillness of the classical sculpture they depict. Rounding off the publication, a selection of stills illustrates the five works on display.
