Querubim Lapa at the Museu do Neo-Realismo
From 24 June, the Museu do Neo-Realismo in Vila Franca de Xira will present the exhibition Querubim Lapa, uma poética neorrealista [Querubim Lapa, a neo-realist poetics] around the work of this artist from the Algarve.
Curated by David Santos, scientific director of the museum, the exhibition brings together a large number of works from the 1940s and 50s, a time when the artist’s work reached its full plenitude, focusing mainly on painting and drawing.
This exhibition is a continuation of the museum’s mission to divulge, investigate and present to the public artists who contributed to the development and affirmation of neo-realism, as is the case of Querubim Lapa (1925-2016), one of the most significant representatives of the Neo-realist movement in Portugal.
The CAM Collection holds 18 works by the artist, including paintings, drawings, prints and ceramics. Fifteen of these works now travel to Vila Franca de Xira to appear in the exhibition, where they can be seen until 29 October.
