CAM lends three works by Artur Rosa to the Centro de Artes Visuais, Coimbra
The exhibition ‘Juntos’ bears witness to Artur Rosa’s visibility and invisibility in Helena Almeida’s work, enabling a holistic reading of the relationship between the two.
Inaugurated at the end of last month under the curation of Miguel von Hafe Pérez, ‘Juntos’ highlights the creation of two artists who shaped the art scene of their time, as well as the possibilities for dialogue they established. At times more convergent, in a relationship of sharing and harmony, at others in a state of confrontation and artistic tension, they reveal a partnership that built up over time.
The works ‘Auto-Retrato’ [Self-Portrait] (1997), ‘A Pirâmide e o Papel Cortado’ [The Pyramid and the Cut Paper] (1975) and ‘Evolução de um losango numa malha logarítima’ [Evolution of a rhombus on a logarithmic grid] (1967), which are part of the CAM Collection, are now on show at the CAV as a result of an extensive process of visual construction through scale, light and volumetry in a fragmented and geometric space, which profoundly marks Artur Rosa’s work. While signalling different moments of production, with very different materials, they employ a similar plastic approach based on research and experimentation.
Sometimes as participant, sometimes as confidant, Artur Rosa permeates Helena Almeida’s work. The couple are brought together in their individuality and artistic convergence in the exhibition ‘Juntos’, which runs until 7 September.
