Location
Engawa Space Centro de Arte Moderna GulbenkianIn this conversation, part of the ‘Institution(ing)s’ programme, Elina Waage Mikalsen (Sámi/Norway, 1992) discusses her current interests and the themes of her research, which are part of the residency ‘Echoes and repetitions’.
At Engawa Space, the artist explores echoes, repetition and joik – traditional singing of the Sámi people – as methods of field recording and as a way of reflecting on the relationship between the land, people and singing.
The open session, with an introduction by Luísa Santos, co-curator of the residency, starts from this context and features the presentation of some of Elina’s previous works. At the end, there will be time to listen to one of her most recent sound works.
‘Institution(ing)s’ is funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or Creative Europe. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
