Engawa Space Centro de Arte Moderna GulbenkianThe creation of a glossary is a continual exercise in understanding how the politics of language are deeply embedded in the ways we work, live together and define culture(s).
As a digital platform, co-edited by Cindy Sissokho and Luísa Santos, and designed by Denise Santos, this glossary will reflect and ponder the coexistence of contemporary cultures alongside those that have been lost, erased or threatened, those that are still being persecuted, and those that are worth reviving.
Which languages would we like to demolish within our diverse vocabularies, and which would we like to share out loud and recognise? What does it mean to reinstate and repair by using languages that for a long time were excluded from institutional spaces, but which today are sometimes over-represented?
These are some of the key questions to be pondered and developed, as a group, with participants in this workshop.
