Studio Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian‘Second Best’ examines the demoralising underside of meritocracy while materializing the textures of effort, process, and acceptance, embracing the quiet beauty of silver linings.
It consist on a textile installation especially created for the occasion, activated by performers wearing the collection. Based on the interdependency between the spaces we inhabit and the way we feel, the designer devised an immersive space, inviting us to dive into her creative world.
The graphic grace of the silhouettes is grounded in 80s Olympics sportswear. Through numerous media, Constança sensualizes the narrative of second place, with a focus on materials perceived as inferior, combined with meticulous attention to the engineering of textile construction.
The collection brings prominence to surfaces: silver details printed on delicate hand-woven fabrics, knits resembling velvet, hand pleated glittery taffetas, Miss World-style sashes, cockades and medals.
For this collection, Constança Entrudo collaborated with RDD Textiles in the development of selected knitted pieces and the set design. All fabrics used for the podiums in the show’s set design were provided by RDD Textiles and will be entirely repurposed in the production of the collection, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to circularity and textile innovation.
