‘ADN – Arquivo Digital Negro’ [Black Digital Archive] is a project developed by a group of multidisciplinary artists dedicated to preserving, documenting and valorising the experience of the Black community living in Portugal and other territories of the diaspora.

As part of this project, Black people who visit the ‘Chorus in Rememory of Flight’ exhibition are invited to have their portrait taken with a professional photographer present in the space and to write a memory for the future about something or someone they wish to remember with love.

This special action aims not only to document the presence of black bodies in cultural institutions, but also to affirm the importance of representation and recording these presences in spaces historically marked by exclusions and invisibilities.

In the future, the records documented here will form part of the Archive’s first collection, entitled ‘Memória de Um Futuro Presente’ [Memory of a Present Future], curated by multidisciplinary artist Jesualdo Lopes. The collection will be available on an online platform to be developed by the Black Digital Archive in 2025.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation reserves the right to collect and keep records of images, sounds and voice for the diffusion and preservation of the memory of its cultural and artistic activity. For further information, please contact us through the Information Request form.
