Engawa Space Centro de Arte Moderna GulbenkianBringing together some of the main cultural institutions in Lisbon, this talk will reflect on the institutional context and the role that organisations play in promoting sustainable practices in the arts.
The event seeks to spark dialogue between creators, collectors and institutions, exploring strategies for the production, use and reintegration of materials throughout the exhibition cycle.
The session creates a space for sharing experiences, critical debate and collective reflection, encouraging more circular, responsible and innovative approaches in the management of material resources in the arts sector.
This talk features Alessia Allegri and Iván Prego (Antecâmara Association), Luísa Santos (Portuguese Catholic University and Coordinator of ‘Institution(ing)s’), Raquel Barata (MUHNAC – National Museum of Natural History and Science) and Rosário Carmo (Gulbenkian Foundation).

Alessia Allegri
Alessia Allegri is an architect, lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, and a researcher at URBinLAB | CIAUD_FA, where she co-coordinates the project ‘Intermittent City’. Her research and practice explore the relationship between built space, use, and temporality, bringing together urbanism, art, and contemporary architecture. She also develops curatorial and editorial work in the fields of architecture and art.

Iván Prego
Iván Prego is a biologist and co-founder of Antecâmara. His work focuses on the relationships between materiality, biology, and architecture, developing projects that combine experimental practice with critical thinking. He coordinates Antecâmara’s exhibition space and collaborates on curatorial and interdisciplinary initiatives.

Luísa Santos
Luísa Santos is an independent curator and researcher in the field of contemporary culture and art studies. She holds a PhD in Culture Studies from the Humboldt & Viadrina School of Governance and a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art. She is a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Humanities of the Portuguese Catholic University and a research fellow at the European School of Governance. She is a member of the CECC, where she co-founded and directs the European project 4Cs – from Conflict to Conviviality through Creativity and Culture. She coordinates the European cooperation project Institution(ing)s.

Raquel Barata
Raquel Barata, who holds a degree in Biology and a PhD in Psychology, coordinates the Education and Exhibitions Unit at the University of Lisbon Museums, as well as projects funded by European programmes (Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+) in the field of science education. Her research focuses on the evaluation of educational initiatives in science museums, based on the ‘Inquiry-based Science Education’ (IBSE) methodology. She is the author of scientific publications and papers in this field, an accredited trainer of primary and secondary school teachers, and a supervisor of teaching placements and master’s projects in this area.

Rosário Palha
Rosário Palha has been at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation since 2019, where she works within the Equity and Sustainability Programme. She is responsible for the Gulbenkian Water project and initiatives relating to the environmental impact of cultural activities and the reporting of sustainability indicators. She holds a degree in International Relations and Political Science, with a specialisation in ‘Global Environmental Governance’.
