'Le camping, le sol dur, la nausée tous les matins, les règles' by Mimosa Echard

Immaterial Ecologies. A gathering to resynchronise land and body.

‘’Le camping, le sol dur, la nausée tous les matins, les règles’’ is a large frieze curtain that combines the potentiality of an adolescent ethos and the traces of vegetal sexuality. While human sexual reproduction is based on fusing the nuclei of male and female sex cells, there are plants that unite both sexual characteristics within themselves, although there are also some that display similar differences to mammals. This painterly collage, presented in confrontation to Lourdes Castro’s ”Sombras à volta de um centro” refers to this even in the choice of materials: in places, sprinklings of cherry pips spat out while dry leaves create a rhizomatic entanglement with the synthetic appearance of latex across the fabric.

A set of installations integrating sound, sculpture, film and performance are presented together with a selection of works from the Collection of the Modern Art Centre to create an atmospheric setting through the buildings of the Gulbenkian Foundation and the Garden.

Works by Lourdes Castro and Mimosa Echard will be exhibited in the hall of the Headquarters Building; installations by Martín Llavaneras can be found in room 1 and in the garden; works by artist Sunny Pfalzer will be presented in room 2; and a video-installation by Denise Ferreira da Silva and Arjuna Neuman will be presented in Auditorium 2.
